What does being transgender mean to you?
It means being born in the wrong body. A lot of my friends are enby and so they don’t understand that. But it’s the feeling of just not being right. And then changing. I don’t know if I’m trans 100% but I’m going to cut my hair and get a binder so I can see how I feel
What are your thoughts on the concept of gender?
Gender is who you are. It’s not your sex, it’s just one part of you that only you get to figure out. It’s just you, and people should try and figure it out.
What’s the difference between gender, sex and expression?
Expression can be how you look at yourself and wear clothes. For a boy it might be cutting your hair short. Wearing jeans and sweatshirts. Although you can wear a dress if you’d like. It’s up to you. Your expression shows your personality or how you choose to show yourself. Your gender affects your expression but just because you were a dress doesn’t mean your not an enby. Your gender is important though, and for some people it’s harder to figure it out. Your gender is separate from your sex, which can come in many shapes and forms but in the end, is kind of the same. It’s almost binary except when it’s not. It can affect your gender but doesn’t always
What does transitioning entail?
You get to be who you were supposed to be. Which shouldn’t be hard. It should just be simple. You become who you really are. Or even if your enby, and you feel uncomfortable in your body, you can transition.
What steps have you taken about transitioning? Name change, pronouns, surgery etc…
I’ve changed my pronouns and name. Although I’m not out to my parents, I want to get a binder to see if I do want to transition, because paranoia.
What are your preferred pronouns and how did you decide?
He/they/it. I’m a boy, but not completely. And I like they/them. It feels right. It is because it just feels right. I am not a thing, but I am an animal, and animals are called ‘it’, so why should I differ? Or maybe it’s just because ‘it’ feels right.
How strict are you with making sure people use your preferred pronouns and how vital are they to easing dysphoria?
I usually tell people they can use they/them, but using my chosen name helps fight off dysphoria to the point where it’s easier to focus in school, because I don’t need my friends online to help me.
Do you ever feel the need to out yourself (as trans) to people?
Yes. I’m not out to my parents, because they thought when I came out as demifluid, that it was a phase. But otherwise yea. I don’t use public bathrooms because they’re gendered and I feel like I might get told I’m in the wrong bathroom. But my school is incredibly supportive so idk
