Texterview Text Reuse Terms
Hey, I’m Pteyra β creator of Texterview.
When someone shares their story on Texterview, they’re trusting me with something deeply personal: their words, their experience, their actual thoughts. So, I want to be really clear about what you can and can’t do with text Texterviews β and how I protect their rights and the integrity of what Texterview is.
These terms apply to Texterview stories as published on official Texterview platforms and channels.
π What Is a Texterview Story?
A Texterview story refers to the published text story β including:
- The participant’s written responses
- My questions and commentary
- Editing and formatting elements
π£ Who Owns What
Participants own their complete stories β their story, their words, the final published version, everything.
I serve as their volunteer editor, publishing each story for them. Through signed release agreements, I assign all copyright in the published story to participants, including all rights to the written content, editing, formatting, and any other creative elements I contribute.
While participants own their complete stories, I retain rights to the Texterview name and branding. Additionally, participants grant me a non-exclusive license to publish and distribute their stories, which enables me to continue hosting and sharing their content through official Texterview channels.
Participants can republish their stories anywhere and license them to anyone independently. However, the Texterview name and branding remain my property and shouldn’t be used in ways that create confusion about official Texterview content.
π’ Simple Rules for Using Texterview Stories
You can:
- Share links to full stories
- Discuss stories in your own words
For any other use involving the actual text, please request permission.
Because participants own complete copyright in their stories, they have full legal rights to protect their content. Unauthorized use of their stories may subject users to copyright infringement claims and legal action.
π How Permission Requests Work
Since participants own their stories, they can license them to anyone directly β they don’t need to go through me or ask my permission.
However, many people discover stories through Texterview and contact me first when they want to use content. To help participants capture these opportunities, I’ve created a permission request system:
- Fill out the permission form with details about your intended use
- I route the request to the participant based on their contact preferences (if they want to be contacted about your type of request)
- They decide β you negotiate terms directly with them
- I take no fees β any arrangements are entirely between you and them
Important: This system is just to help connect participants with opportunities that come through Texterview. Participants always retain the right to license their content independently to anyone they choose and handle all negotiations themselves, regardless of their contact preferences selected through Texterview.
Participant Contact Preferences
When submitting a Texterview, participants choose how they want third-party requests handled:
- Forward all requests β the participant decides case-by-case
- Forward only paid opportunities β unpaid requests are declined
- Do not forward requests β all requests are declined on the participantβs behalf
These preferences affect only whether requests are forwarded through Texterview.
Participants always retain the right to license their stories independently to anyone, regardless of the option selected.
π Why This Matters
The participant created the story and lived the experience. When you want to reuse a Texterview story, their consent comes first. Always.
“You can’t use someone’s story unless they’re okay with it.“
That’s how we protect trust β and that’s what Texterview is built on.
β TL;DR Summary
- Participants own their complete stories β they control all licensing
- Participants can license to anyone independently without involving me
- You can share links to full stories and discuss them in your own words
- For any other use involving the actual text, please request permission
- You can use the permission form to connect with participants
- I’ll route your request to the participant based on their contact preferences
- Any revenue from licensing goes to the participant
π© Request Permission
To request permission to reuse part of a story β or if you’re unsure about something β you can fill out the permission form.
I’ll route your request to the participant based on their preferences. If they’re interested, you’ll work out the terms directly with them.
Remember, participants are also free to handle licensing independently outside of this system.
Legal Disclaimer: These terms reflect Texterview’s general policies for respectful use of participant-owned content. They do not constitute legal advice or override applicable copyright law, which varies by jurisdiction and specific circumstances. For questions about specific use cases, consult with qualified legal counsel. When in doubt, please request permission through the form or contact participants directly.
These terms reflect Texterview’s commitment to protecting participants’ voices while respecting their complete ownership of their stories.
