Settling down after many years living abroad is difficult. Things don’t run very well here. There’s a lot of apathy and things go very slowly

It’s ok, things are expensive for the wages

Expensive. Rent is expensive, homes are expensive, groceries are expensive

Is it easy to make friends in Malta?

We reconnected with old friends. Have made some new friends through the old friends. Most people are friendly

How safe is Malta?

It’s quite safe (we are in Gozo)

What are your thoughts on nature in Malta?

The natural surrounding are beautiful. Sadly there is a lot of development and noise pollution.

Is English widely spoken?

Yes I think so. There are a lot of foreigners here nowadays

How diverse is Malta?

Quite diverse. Much moser so than twenty years ago

Do you like the weather?

Summer is nice. Winter is very cold as the houses are cold and not insulated

How is Maltese cuisine?

It’s good

How is the transportation system?

The roads are over crowded. Driving is stressful and tiring. Other drivers don’t follow the road laws. Busy, over crowded, the bus often doesn’t arrive on time or not at all. My teenager uses it frequently and is often frustrated and I end up driving them places as the buses aren’t reliable.

What do you think about the standard of education?

My children’s teachers are often angry and biased. It’s very difficult for the kids. The fact that you can’t resist two science subjects (matsec) at the same time is super disappointing and leaves many at a disadvantage. It seems like the teacher favor the pupils who pay for private lessons with them. Way too much religion.

How is the entertainment industry?

Lacking

It’s high. It’s apparent

Overbearing.

What is the most celebrated festival/holiday?

Santa marija

What bothers you about Malta?

The heat in summer, the traffic, the over crowding.

Do you think Malta is the greatest country in the world? If not, what country do you think is the greatest?

Yes I love it here but much can be improved. It seems like everything is done with half a job.

What advice would you like to give someone who would like to live in/visit Malta?

Come and enjoy it, it’s beautiful

Which city will you likely recommend to a foreigner to live? And why?

Anywhere away from us. There’s enough people near us as it is

What places/things would you recommend people to visit/do?

Hypogeum- it’s incredible!

What are cons of living in Malta?

It’s an island. It’s expensive. The shopping is sub par to everywhere else.

What are pros of living in Malta?

It’s an island, summer is amazing here, there’s a large social life

If you could relocate, what country would you relocate to?

I did and came back (USA)

What are things that are normal in Malta but may surprise foreigners?

The dust, the general run-down state of everything, the traffic.
