My whole life (23 years)

How would you describe life in France?

Pretty good! Experience may vary on what place you’re living in exactly.

Has it been easy to settle down, to find accommodation and a job?

Jobs are pretty easy to find, but accommodation is growing harder to find with time at decent prices without living in a broom closet.

How is the standard of living?

Pretty good in general. The government can help with a lot of things

How is the cost of living?

Depends on the place you live. Pretty high in my case because it’s a very touristic place

Not anymore or any less than in other places

Clutch your belongings in touristic cities

Yes, it’s the major part of the country

No, the French are notoriously bad at languages

Pretty diverse

It’s too hot where I live, but it’s super rainy up North. Depends on the place really.

I love it! Not to forget each region has its own cuisine

What are your favorite French foods?

Bœuf bourguignon, kouign-amann, all kinds of breads and pastries

Does France suffer any natural disasters? If Yes, how often?

Yes, frequent floods in the South-East of France fairly often

I’m not really affected (revenue too low for income tax) but the VAT is one of the highest of Europe at 20%

Better than countries like the USA but not too impressive outside of big urban centres

It’s pretty bad and going downhill up to university level

Football

The French are pretty racist towards brown people and/or Muslim people. I think there’s racism against black people as well but less than against brown people.

It’s traditionally Catholic but over half the population declare themselves to be non-believers

Probably Christmas (even for non-believers, and I have Muslim friends who celebrate it too because it’s mostly a secular holiday in France)

The fact it’s the country of the rights of men and citizens but it’s not that progressive these days

Do you think France is the greatest country in the world? If not, what country do you think is the greatest?

I don’t think France is the best country in the world, that would make me a nationalist and nationalism is an extremely misguided ideology to have. I am just patriotic and I like my country. I don’t know if there are better ones, I’ve only lived here.

Don’t only visit Paris 🙂
