The special connection is the same as having a best friend, we just happen to look similar.

Is there a way to tell you apart?

We look different. Most people go for the easy ones. I have two scars on my face and my twin does not. I also have a freckle on the right cheek and she has one on the left.

Are you identical or fraternal?

Identical

4 minutes in birth, 100s of miles in distance.

We have inside jokes and things a like and this understanding of each other’s minds and emotional state can be mistaken for twin telepathy from people who don’t understand. The special connection is the same as having a best friend we just happen to look similar.

Do people mistake you for each other, how have you used that to your advantage?

All the time but it’s normally from a lack of effort on others part. The only time we used it to our advantage was when we were waitress and we used it to make more money by entertaining people with practiced lines.

Did you ever dress alike?

Sometimes if we feel like but not very often. We have different taste in clothes.

(For Identical Twins) Do you ever do anything to look less alike?

No, this happens naturally since we have different taste in clothing. We just do what we want and if matches or doesn’t then that’s what it is.

No and yes. We have simar ideas and core beliefs but we express them differently. We do have similar interests but we also have different ones as well.

How do you celebrate your birthdays?

Alone.

Have you struggled with your identity?

No, but other people like to push that idea on us. Twins don’t have an identity crisis until others none twins force them into it. Just because they don’t like how it looks or what it is they tell us it’s wrong. It’s not. We just live.

Do you sometimes compare yourself to your twin?

Genetic difference and social behavior just to see how much genetics or life style has effected us but not in a competitive or self hating way.

What effects does being a twin have on your life?

Having a twin is amazing because there is always someone who understands you, if you both get along some twins don’t, but being a twin sucks because non twins treat you like a science experiment or an object to be observed. They forget we are human.

What are the most annoying things people have said to you about being a twin?

Saying they’ll never be able to tell us apart. Asking if they can share an intimate relationship with us. Asking us to talk at the same time or read each other’s minds like we are clowns for them to laugh at. Not respecting boundaries and Asking super personal questions cause “they’re just curious”

What’s the biggest fight you’ve ever had with your twin?

When a friend invited her to a different state for the summer and not me cause she didn’t like me and my sister didn’t automatically say no or defend me. That hurt my feelings, but I was also 8 so a lot of things hurt my feelings back then.

Growing up, how was your relationship with your twin?

Good, then in high school it got rocky cause her boyfriend didn’t like me and now as adults it’s good. Was never bad though.

How is your relationship with your twin now?

Not being treated like a person.

What are advantages of being a twin?

If you get along you always have a friend, if not then you have an organ donor if you need one.

What are things to NOT say to twins?

The twins, we have names. Never trying to tell us apart. Asking super personal questions if you aren’t close to them. Asking if you can share them. Basically just talking to us like we’re a freak show is a no go. Think before you ask something, ask yourself how you would feel if someone asked you the same question about you and your parents, or siblings, or whoever you are close to. If you don’t like it then don’t ask.

Say something to twins

Single units shouldn’t determine how you live your life. Just live and if others have problems with it then abandon them. Don’t let others get in the way of your happiness. Just be you.

Say something to parents of twins

Accept them as siblings first. Don’t call them the twins, use their names, and accept them for who they want to be and what they want their relationship to be not what you want. Let them choose for themselves.

Do you sometimes wish you weren’t a twin?

No

Do you actually like being a twin?

Yes, it’s part of who I am and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

More about your experience as a twin

Don’t push your fantasies on to us. It’s annoying. Don’t say things like I couldn’t handle two of me. We aren’t the same person. We aren’t clones. When we find people who accept us for who we are and see us as people with a preference for each other we hold on to them tight because they are precious to us. It’s fun though, having someone who understands what you are saying and what you mean, this comes from shared experiences. It’s cool.
